Your visit to Historic Jonesborough in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains would not be complete without attending our Music on the Square weekly music festival. It’s music at its best with the townscape of downtown Jonesborough as the setting. Music on the Square provides live concerts featuring a variety of music that ranges from Americana, Bluegrass, Celtic, Irish, Old-Time, Blues and Jazz. Local and regional bands, storytellers, poets and performance artists provide the weekly line-up of live entertainment.
Held each Friday evening, May through September, Main Street is blocked off to through traffic and everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the concerts that begin around 7pm. Event tickets are only needed during the Winter Series, but we do “pass the hat” during the regular season. Come have dinner in one of our unique restaurants and indulge in some ice cream at the Old Sweet Shop. Most shops stay open late, so pay them a visit to get the whole “Jonesborough Experience”.
This music festival is loved by all and attended by many; residents from all over East Tennessee including Johnson City, Bristol and Kingsport take part in this weekly event. Folks love to visit, chat, enjoy the music and meet new friends while in the picturesque setting of Tennessee’s oldest town. Visit their website for a complete schedule of performances at musiconthesquare.com or call the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center at 423-753-1010.
