Jonesborough is the Storytelling Capital of the World and home to the National Storytelling Festival and the International Storytelling Center. The International Storytelling Center is in the middle of Jonesborough’s historic downtown, and presents the wonderful Teller-In-Residence program that runs from May - October every year. The very best Storytellers in the world come through Jonesborough a week at a time to perform at the Storytelling Theater within the Center.
With stories for all ages, those great “tellers” can have you belly laughing on minute and crying the next. Experience the power of the oral tradition from Tuesday - Saturday in the first facility in the country devoted exclusively to the art of Storytelling.
Good storytellers captivate their audience, and young people make great listeners. With recent generations growing up with television serving as their primary storyteller, experiencing the oral tradition through some of the best storytellers in the world can be a wonderful addition to any vacation with children
Some of the Storytellers performing through the Teller-In-Residence program also hold an evening concert at the International Storytelling Center. These concerts are Wednesday or Thursday evenings, and begin at 7:30 pm. The evening concerts are not recommended for children under 12, and reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets can be purchased in advance by phone (423-913-1276) using a credit card.
Admission cost is $10 for adults, and $9 for seniors, students and children under 18 years of age. Seating in the Storytelling Theater is limited and reservations are recommended. The International Storytelling Center is located on Main Street in the heart of Jonesborough historic district immediately west of the Jonesborough Courthouse.
