History & Culture Package

You are about to embark on an American history lesson that will take you back two centuries. Join us for the most fun cultural activities that you’ve ever experienced! Our cultural activities include theatre, dinner theater, storytelling, dancing, and free music concerts.

You'll be visiting the sites where some of our nations' most important countrymen have lived and worked. Culture has been a part of our history and is still being enjoyed today. You will want to put on a pair of comfortable walking or dancing shoes, grab a friend, and discover the fun side of history and culture in Historic Jonesborough, Tennessee!

  • Enjoy a beautiful crisp morning with a guided tour in Tennessee’s oldest town. If it is too early to communicate with others, enjoy a self-guided strolling tour. Either way, you will learn about almost 40 historical sites and two centuries of history.
  • After working up an appetite, enjoy a patio lunch or a picnic lunch from any of our delicious restaurants.
  • Take a rest after lunch while you enjoy a storytelling concert at the International Storytelling Center at 2 pm. Jonesborough is the Storytelling Capital of the World, and the very best storytellers come to perform in the Teller-In-Residence program from Tuesday through Saturday during the months of May through October.
  • Perhaps you continued your historical tour after lunch and did not attend the afternoon concert at the International Storytelling Center. Every Tuesday night at The Cranberry Thistle Restaurant the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild begins storytelling at 7 pm.
  • Whether you missed the previous storytelling concerts or are simply yearning for more, the Teller-in-Residence program also has special performances on Wednesday or Thursday nights. (Not for children under 12)
  • If you’re up for squeezing one more activity into your day, get tickets for the guided ghost tour with Appalachian GhostWalks or Positive Solutions Tours, a night walking tour that combs the Jonesborough Historic district for chilling stories. Call for a tour, though the ghosts of Andrew Jackson, John Sevier, and other Founding Fathers are said to roam the streets all year!
  • Enjoy singing and dancing in the streets every Friday evening from 7 pm until 10 pm in the months of May through September. Music On The Square, in front of the Courthouse on Historic Mani Street, is a free outdoor concert showcasing quality performers. It’s great to be able to shop, eat and hear great performances all in the same place.
  • Just can’t stop dancing? Or, maybe you need a little more direction with your dancing… On the first and third Saturday of the month a Contra Dance is held at the Historic Jonesborough Visitor Center. The dance events are open to the public, live traditional music is featured each dance, and no partner or experience is necessary.
  • Enjoy a unique blend of history and culture at the Proud Annie Mystery Theatre located inside the historic Rhea-Mckinley House. Audience members solve a hilarious comedy murder mystery while enjoying a delicious six-course gourmet meal.
  • On Sunday enjoy a delicious Sunday Brunch at Bistro 105 and a matinee at the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre.
